Our Region
Set amongst the rugged beauty of Central Otago, Bannockburn is a place of contrasts sun drenched slopes, crisp mountain air, and a landscape steeped in gold mining history. From our doorstep at The Claim, you can ride, sip, and savour your way through one of New Zealand’s most captivating regions.
Bike Trails & Bike Parks
From vineyard loops to alpine descents, Central Otago offers some of the best cycling in New Zealand. Whether you’re chasing kilometres or cruising between cafés, every trail promises world-class scenery at every turn.
Just 100 metres from The Claim, you can join the Lake Dunstan Trail, a spectacular ride hugging turquoise waters, suspension bridges, and dramatic gorges all the way to Clyde. For a gentler journey, the Cromwell Heritage Precinct Loop offers boutique shops, lakeside views, and a perfect mid-ride coffee stop.

Wine & Vineyards
Bannockburn is often called the heart of Central Otago wine country and for good reason. The region’s long, hot summers and cool nights produce some of the world’s most distinctive Pinot Noirs, alongside elegant whites that capture the purity of the landscape.
From your cabin at The Claim, you can wander or ride to boutique cellar doors nestled among rolling vines, each offering a story, a view, and a glass that’s worth the journey.
Hikes & Local Walks
Just minutes from your stay at The Claim, the Bannockburn and Cromwell basin offer an irresistible mix of natural beauty and gold-rush history that’s perfect for a stroll or a scenic walk. Wander through the rugged remains of the Bannockburn Sluicings Historic Reserve—a 3.5–4 km loop where miners blasted their way through the hills in the 1800s.
Prefer lakeside views? The foreshore around Lake Dunstan presents calmer walking options, with vineyard views and gentle paths for all fitness levels. Whether you’re after a brisk climb or a relaxed nature stroll, this region delivers tranquil bush, sweeping vistas, and a sense of timeless Central Otago spirit.
Cafés, Bites & Restaurants
In Central Otago, food is an experience. Fresh produce, local flavour, and a generosity that mirrors the landscape itself. Whether it’s a long lunch among the vines or a fireside dinner after a day on the trails, every meal feels like a celebration of where you are.
